Freeport is a community full of resources and amenities. Located in the rolling hills of Northwest Illinois, Freeport offers a wide variety of choices from history to art to recreation. The area also offers wonderful hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and campgrounds, as well as a full selection of restaurants from fast food to supper clubs. All of this is so very close to Liberty Village and our residents take full advantage of the activities and services our community provides.

Liberty Village of Freeport has its own Liberty Belle Bus, however, for those needing transportation beyond what we provide here on campus, the Stephenson County Senior Center is always willing to assist our seniors.

Local shopping outlets include Wal-mart, Shopko, The Lincoln Mall, and JC Penny’s and K-Mart located in the Meadows Shopping Center. In addition, grocery stores such as Cub Foods, Eagle’s and Econo Foods are just a bus ride away. Antique and specialty shopping is also highlight of the area with a wide variety of shops and experiences.

Freeport is home to a plethora of clubs and service organizations. The community strives to be friendly and welcoming, and this is shown by groups such as three Kiwanis clubs, the Rotary Organization, the Lions Club, the Jaycee’s, Knights of Columbus, and many more!

The parks and recreation facilities in Freeport/Stephenson County are numerous and popular. Freeport offers one of the most beautiful city parks in the country, Krape Park. This park offers an old-fashioned carousel (for both children and adults!), a waterfall, duck pond, nature trail, playground areas, miniature golf, a performance amphitheater (with regular concerts in the summer), gardens, wonderful picnic areas and more.

Other Freeport parks include Oakdale Nature Preserve with its oak and hickory woods, restored prairie areas, two streams, winding trails for hiking, running and cross-country skiing, and nature center filled with exhibits for the whole family.

For theatrical entertainment, Freeport offers Winneshiek Playhouse, one of the oldest amateur theaters in the country offering quality, live theater each season. Freeport’s Highland Community College has the Ferguson Fine Arts Theatre which features a variety of fine arts programming including vocal and music concerts, live theatre, special performances and the popular Summerset Theatre program, a community performing arts theater. First run movies are available at the six screen Lindo Theatre in downtown Freeport.
